I never met Bishop Moroni Chugg, but as his daughters passed away (his sons having died before I moved to this area) I attended their funerals and met their children and grandchildren. Especially, I enjoy watching their efforts rewarded at the Weber County Fair and reading of their impact on their community in the Weber and Cache newspapers. Occasionally I have worked with one or another. They are not all of the "whole other family" but as I have typed in their names I realize the fortune that comes through Johanna Stanbury Chugg. Recently I attended a blessing service for one of the newest in her family and was reminded to count my own- blessings. KK
Melburne David Chugg, 83, passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018. He was born on November 3, 1934, in Ogden, Utah, to Melburne David and Neoma Hermina Teuscher Chugg. He graduated from Ogden High School, earned a Bachelor and Masters at Utah State University and earned his Ed.D. at the University of Oregon.
ReplyDeleteDavid traveled around as he went to school and gained experience teaching, living in Rupert and Grace, Idaho, for a few years as well as Logan and Ephraim, Utah. He then settled in Rexburg, Idaho, where he lived for 37 years. After retiring, he has lived in Ogden, Layton and Bountiful, Utah, for the last 15 years.
He married his high school sweetheart, Lorna Karen Donnellon on June 15, 1955, in the Logan LDS Temple. Lorna passed away on March 19, 2005.
David was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully on the High Council, as a Bishopric Counselor, Financial Clerk, and Choir Director.
He was Chairman of the Music Department at Ricks College for 16 years where he taught for 38 years. David received a Person of Influence Award from Snow College where he also taught. He ran for Rexburg City Councilman. He also worked at Hill Air Force Base during the Korean War, since his colorblindness kept him out of the military.
David enjoyed construction and home remodeling, engine repair, model railroading, hiking, camping, reading, but especially spending time with his family (one of his favorite memories is climbing the Grand Tetons several times.)
David is survived by his sons: David Donnellon (Julee) Chugg, Pleasant Grove, UT; Darrell Clyde (Jeanine) Chugg, Odenton, Maryland; and Darren Michael (Stephanie) Chugg; daughters: Nancy K. Chugg (Russell) Rolfe, Layton, UT; Carolyn Chugg (Alan) Trowbridge, West Valley City, UT; and Dana Lanae Chugg (John) Sullivan, Meridian, ID; brother-in-law, Roger Wade, Syracuse, UT; 24 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorna Karen Donnellon Chugg of 49 years; son, Donald Chugg; father, Melburne David Chugg; mother, Neoma Hermina Teuscher Chugg Green; stepfather, Clyde Quinton Green; and sisters, Clydene Green Wade and Joann Chugg.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 4, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist^s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.

I am Leila Chugg Heslop's granddaughter and have the valentine Moroni Chugg gave to his fiance Ida Taylor in 1900 or 1901. I am the youngest child of Leila's oldest child, Carma.
